Melbourne, Australia, November 1, 2017 – The Silverfern Group, an investment management firm making direct investments in middle market private equity, real estate and private debt globally, today announced that it has completed the acquisition of Marvel Packers, in partnership with Direct Capital and management.
Marvel Packers is a well-established manufacturer of potato-based products, specializing in the production of frozen French fries. Marvel produces potato-based products from its manufacturing facility in Victoria, Australia and distributes them through food service wholesalers to a large and diverse range of independent food service outlets, including fish & chip shops, cafes and restaurants, throughout Australia.
“We are excited to partner with management and Direct Capital in the acquisition of a leading Australian French fry manufacturer with significant local and national growth opportunities,” said Silverfern Managing Director Mark Baldassarre. “Silverfern Advisory Board member Fergus Collins, an experienced food industry veteran who has joined Marvel Packers, has helped to identify substantial growth and expansion opportunities for Marvel that our capital and industry connections will help access.”
Silverfern Managing Partner Clive Holmes added, “Our investment in Marvel Packers further demonstrates Silverfern’s effectiveness as a local investor, as we continue to invest on a global basis. In the case of Marvel Packers, we are partnering with local investment partners and management, including Managing Director Paul McBeth, whose grandfather founded Marvel more than 80 years ago, and we are contributing deep industry insight. We look forward to being part of the acceleration of Marvel Packers’ growth in the underpenetrated Australian food industry.”
The acquisition of Marvel Packers represents Silverfern’s second platform investment and fourth global investment so far in 2017.
